Denver, CO (PRWeb) January 9, 2007 -- Losing weight isn't easy. Choosing a weight-loss supplement can be even harder. "With hundreds to choose from, it can be downright confusing," claims Stephen Adele, the Editor-in-Chief of Real Solutions magazine.

Stephen goes on to say, "the good new is, weight-loss pills do work (at least some of them anyway), and they can help us get rid of ugly, unsightly bodyfat faster than diet and exercise alone." In fact, according to the Nutrition Business Journal, weight-loss pills are a $1.7-billion market.

Five resolutions to improve overall health

BLOOMINGTON, Minn.At the beginning of every year, people begin to think about New Years resolutions. For some, included in their resolutions are promises to eat right, exercise and lose weight. Paul Ratt, ND, a naturopathic practitioner at Northwestern Health Sciences Universitys Natural Care Center at Woodwinds in Woodbury, Minn., suggests that people make 2007 the year when they make new choices for improved overall health.

Americans have the firm belief in weight loss as the answer to poor health. However, according to Ratt, individuals have to be healthy to lose weight.

Improving health for the long term involves establishing personal nutrition habits, says Ratt. Throw away the diet book and the magic bullets and start the process of planning better, shopping smarter, and eating healthier.

Precontemplation Stage — During this stage, patients do not even consider changing. Smokers who are "in denial'' may not see that the advice applies to them personally. Patients with high cholesterol levels may feel "immune" to the health problems that strike others. Obese patients may have tried unsuccessfully so many times to lose weight that they have simply given up. Contemplation Stage — During this stage, patients are ambivalent about changing. Giving up an enjoyed behavior causes them to feel a sense of loss despite the perceived gain. Patients assess barriers (for example, time, expense, hassle, fear, "I know I need to, doc, but ... ") as well as the benefits of change. Preparation Stage — During this stage, patients prepare to make a specific change. They may experiment with small changes as their determination to change increases.
